Today we are introducing Ubuntu workstations on Computle. Alongside Windows, you can now run full GPU workstations on Ubuntu, and they are fully supported with Computle Client v4.
An Ubuntu workstation on Computle is the same class of machine as our Windows workstations: a dedicated NVIDIA GPU, high-clock CPU and fast NVMe storage, assigned to a single user. The only difference is the operating system. Your teams get a modern Ubuntu desktop with full GPU acceleration, for the applications and pipelines that run best on Linux.
This suits teams working with Linux-native tools for rendering, simulation, point cloud processing, scripting and development, and practices that want to run Windows and Linux side by side without keeping separate hardware in the office.
Ubuntu workstations use the same Computle Client v4 as the rest of the platform. Your users connect from Windows, Mac, iPad or Linux exactly as they do today, with the same sign-in and the same experience. Features already available in Client v4, including multi-monitor, automatic reconnects and kiosk mode, work the same way whether the workstation is running Windows or Ubuntu.
Ubuntu workstations appear in the Computle Portal next to your Windows machines. Administrators can assign them to users, see their status and manage them in the same place, so there is no second system for your IT team to learn.
Ubuntu workstations do not need a Windows licence, so we take it off the price. Each Ubuntu workstation costs £219.99 less than the equivalent Windows workstation over its three-year term, which is Microsoft’s recommended retail price (MSRP) for Windows 11 Pro in the UK.
